Traveling art exhibit showcases African-American history
The Kinsey Collection is the largest private holding of African-American art and artifacts. It's a family affair as the show travels the world. Michelle Miller visited the latest exhibition in Houston to talk about how it all began.
Over the past 57 years, Bernard and Shirley Kinsey have collected hundreds of art pieces and historical documents while traveling the world.
Bernard and Shirley Kinsey started their art collection in the early 1970s. It now numbers more than 700 pieces and counting, and is recognized as one of the largest, most encompassing collections chronicling the Black American experience. Elise Preston has their story.
The Kinsey Collection is proud to announce that we have extended our exhibition at the Tacoma Art Museum until December 5th. We’ll also be hosting an ETC takeover at TAM on Thursday, December, 2nd! We look forward to seeing everyone there!
Recently the Northwest Sinfonietta collaborated with Tacoma Art Museum to produce a series of videos highlighting legendary African American musicians.
While at the opening of The Kinsey Collection at Tacoma Art Museum, the Kinsey family sat down with Harry Smith of the Today Show to be featured on “Mr. Smith Goes To…”.
We’re excited to share our collaborative capsule with ETC Tacoma and Tacoma Art Museum - as part of our pop-up shop inside the museum. The pieces in the capsule reference art and objects from the collection that relate to the local history of Tacoma and the Pacific Northwest.
The Kinsey Collection has officially opened at Tacoma Art Museum with a collaborative pop-up shop with Tacoma’s very own ETC. See a couple of pictures from the opening weekend here.
